People pleasing is the act of doing something specifically to please or gain approval from other people. Over time this can come at the detriment of yourself, your needs and wants. It can also lead to you living a life that you don't want, for instance, choosing a career that others approve of but you don't even like.
People pleasers often crave a reaction for their actions. This tends to be short term rewards such as approval of others, avoiding conflict or the “warm fuzzies” from seeing others happy.
While these don’t seem like bad things to receive, the problem lies in being tied to this outcome and what you are willing to do to get them. Are you doing things that are not in alignment with your values to gain these rewards?
